The Abbey yesterday and today
Built in the 10th century, likely by Greek monks, the monastery (which was not yet an abbey at the time) later passed into the hands of Benedictine monks.
Over the years, the central structure was expanded and modified, with the addition of the beautiful loggia that still overlooks the beach today and the construction of the watchtower. A small village also developed around the monastery.
Today, the interior of the Abbey serves as a museum, while the exterior is enjoyed by visitors for walks in the gardens, dining at the various local restaurants, and, of course, taking a refreshing swim in the bay.
Every year, the Abbey attracts thousands of visitors, drawn by the scenic views and the stunning landscape of this location.
